Sara Coscarelli Publishes Three Articles on Modern Architecture and Critical Regionalism

Sara Coscarelli Comas, Deputy Director of Eina, has recently published three articles in prestigious academic architecture journals, analyzing different aspects of modern architecture and critical regionalism.

The first article, titled La nueva modernidad en la arquitectura de ascendencia mediterránea de Josep Maria Sostres. Modernidad y humanidad, published in RAM, the journal of the Docomomo Ibérico Foundation, explores the work of Catalan architect Josep Maria Sostres. This article examines how Sostres, amid the crisis of the Modern Movement due to its rigid dogmatism, introduced a new way of understanding architecture in Catalonia, advocating for a reinterpretation of popular and vernacular architectures.

The second article, Proceso de generación del espacio doméstico. Metodología para la transformación de espacio en lugar, published in FEDRO, Journal of Aesthetics and Theory of the Arts, analyzes how the creation of a habitable space depends on various interconnected factors, from context and perception to user experience. This study examines the crisis of the Modern Movement from a phenomenological perspective, arguing that space identity is built through the interdependence of multiple variables.

Finally, the third article, Regionalismo critico nell'Africa Subsahariana. Un nuovo modus operandi per comprendere attraverso la modernità il valore della città e della sua storia, published in the Italian journal Fa Magazine, studies the evolution of modern architecture in Sub-Saharan Africa. The article explores how critical regionalism has counteracted the loss of identity caused by the International Style and has helped modernize local traditions, breaking free from colonial inertia.

Through these publications, Coscarelli Comas makes a significant contribution to the debate on modern architectural thought and its interactions with tradition and local identity.
