Lights in Alingsås 2026

Helena Calzado and Iku Ricard Sala share their experience at Lights in Alingsås 2026

Helena Calzado, a former student on the University Master’s Degree in Design of Spaces, and Iku Ricard Sala, a student on Eina’s Bachelor in Design, have returned from Sweden after taking part in Lights in Alingsås 2026, one of the leading international workshops in the field of lighting design. Both took part thanks to scholarships promoted by Lightecture.

For one week, students and young professionals from different countries worked alongside designers, technicians and programmers to transform concepts into real lighting installations that form part of the Swedish festival. It was an intensive experience based on experimentation, teamwork and hands-on problem-solving.

For Helena Calzado, who took part in Coalescence, an interactive installation featuring nearly 900 LED pixels, one of the main lessons was discovering the importance of testing ideas directly in the space: real light can behave very differently from how it was imagined on paper or on screen.

Iku Ricard Sala, meanwhile, was part of the Between Lovers team, where he contributed to the conceptual development, installation and adjustment of lighting fixtures, programming and team management. Among the aspects he particularly highlights are having to tackle real-world problems, find alternatives under pressure and work with people from different cultures and with very different approaches to design.

An experience that takes learning beyond the classroom and reinforces the international, experimental and collaborative dimension of design education.
