On 21 October, from 6 to 8.30 pm at Bosc, Eina will host the Death and Resistance seminar, bringing together artists, researchers and cultural and social practitioners to reflect on death as a political, social and cultural experience. The event will address questions such as what it means to die today, how politics of mourning are constructed, and how imaginaries associated with death can become forms of resistance. Advance booking is required to attend the seminar.
The seminar forms part of the third edition of Extramural, the Museu Tàpies’ annual programme, which invites contemporary artists to intervene in public space through projects connecting art, critical thought and citizenship. Eina is once again participating as a collaborating institution. This edition centres on artist Dora García, who presents Timelines / Resurrection, a project that explores resurrection as a practice of justice, reactivating memories and recovering silenced voices.
The event takes as its starting points, among others, Elias Canetti’s thinking on death and power and Achille Mbembe’s concept of necropolitics, alongside the work of fiction writers such as Octavia E. Butler and Philip K. Dick. In doing so, the seminar brings critical thought, artistic practice and collective action into dialogue to question normative ways of dying, remembering and constructing archives.
The seminar will feature five invited projects:
- Mortals (Morir Queer), with Albert Potrony and Roser Sanjuan, exploring queer practices around dying and mourning.
- Anarchivo Sida, with Nanci Garín of Equipo Re, focusing on memories of HIV/AIDS.
- Forats per a fer un rèquiem, by Roger Aixut and Laia Torrents of Cabosanroque, exploring memory, ritual and contemporary commemoration.
- Donem llum a la mort, with Tanit Güell.
- Som provisional, with Júlia Sánchez Cid, reflecting on impermanence, finitude and the temporal condition of existence.
Following the project presentations, a round-table discussion moderated by Dora García will bring together the different approaches to death, mourning, memory and resistance explored throughout the event.

Other Extramural 2026 activities
The Extramural 2026 programme will continue on 24 October with two activities connected to Timelines / Resurrection. At 11 am, Dora García will lead Death and Resistance.Collective Walk, a performative reading and walk through Montjuïc Cemetery that activates its funerary and political archive through graves, mass graves, memorials and landscapes of mourning. Conceived as a conclusion to the ‘Death and Resistance’ round-table discussion, the activity explores the relationships between memory, power and resistance. Advance booking is required to take part in the walk.
On the same day, at 1 pm, Restaurant Mescladís at Teatre Lliure de Montjuïc will host the launch of issue 8 of the journal Convit/e, Kintsugi, dedicated to Dora García’s project. Taking the Japanese practice of kintsugi as its starting point, the publication reflects on absence, memory and ways of reconstructing what has been lost, extending into the editorial sphere some of the questions explored by Extramural.
