Lluís Farré Estrada holds a Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona (1993).
Teaching / Research
He has taught illustration classes at the Escola de la Dona and at Llotja, within training programmes of the SOC. He regularly gives talks about his profession at artistic creation centres, schools and secondary education institutions.
Professional activity
He began his career as an illustrator in 1993, combining work in scientific illustration, children’s and young adult literature, textbooks, the press and advertising. Since then and up to the present day, he has worked for a wide range of publishing houses and magazines, both national and international.
As a writer, he published his first book in 1998. Some of his works have been translated into several languages, including Spanish, Galician, English, French, Italian, Polish and Korean.
In 2017, he launched a toy brand under the name Paquita’s Toys.
In 2021, he created DIBOONIC, a line of handcrafted products based on illustration.
In 2024, he trained as a ceramicist at the Escola de Ceràmica de la Bisbal, with the aim of incorporating illustration into this additional creative discipline.
Awards
- Lazarillo Prize for Illustration, 1995.
- Serra d’Or Critics’ Award for the Best Children’s Literature Book in Catalan published in 2002, for Endrapallibres, written and illustrated by Lluís Farré.
- Junceda Award for Illustration in the Textbook category, granted by APIC (Associació Professional d’Il·lustradors de Catalunya), 2005.
- Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Children’s Short Story Prize, for El Nen Gris, 2006.
- Serra d’Or Critics’ Award for the Best Children’s Literature Book in Catalan published in 2007, for El Nen Gris.
- Serra d’Or Critics’ Award for the Best Children’s Literature Book in Catalan published in 2010, for L’Arca de Noè.
