IMAPLA (Imma Pla)

IMAPLA (Imma Pla)

Barcelona, 1964.

In 1985 she completed her studies in Graphic Design at Elisava, University School of Design and Engineering of Barcelona.

She likes to describe herself as a graphic author, without labels. If labels are required, she is a graphic designer, illustrator, author of children’s and young adult literature (CYL), workshop facilitator, and occasionally takes photographs for pleasure.

Teaching / Research

She created a poetic alphabet book entitled Mirar es leer (Looking Is Reading), published by IBBYcat, which currently forms the basis of most of her workshops. These are aimed at all age groups and are held in libraries, schools and universities.

Professional activity

She enjoys working from play and doubt, where an interesting poetic space opens up. Reading processes in poetry are open to all possible perspectives.

She considers herself an illustrator, although she is not particularly interested in drawing for narrative purposes. She prefers to narrate through the book as an object, where every element matters: size, format, colour, spine and typography.

She has held exhibitions in Catalonia, Zaragoza, Granada and France.

As an author of children's and young adult literature, she has books translated into English, German, French, Italian, Korean, Belgian, and Portuguese.

Latest published books:

Un herbario lorquiano
Folioscopio, 2024

Come Closer, Tatita
Minerva. Astra Publisher. USA, 2024

La patita fea
Océano Travesía

Since 2020, taking photographs again has brought her back to poetry.
