Guillem Celada Prior (Sabadell, 1986) is a design history researcher and artist.
His professional practice lies at the intersection of historical research, material culture and contemporary artistic practices, with a particular focus on the processes through which objects are produced, circulated and received, as well as on the narratives that shape the memory of design.
He holds a degree in Design, a Master's degree in Research in Art and Design from Eina and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and a PhD in Philosophy from the UAB.
Teaching / Research
His research focuses on the relationships between design, art and popular culture, particularly in Catalonia during the second half of the twentieth century. Within this field, he has examined the aesthetic imaginaries associated with cultural modernisation, design practices and the individuals and organisations that have helped shape contemporary visual culture.
His doctoral research, entitled Tuset Street, primitivisme pop: un espai-temps barceloní i les implicacions del disseny, explores manifestations of pop culture in Barcelona during the 1960s, their connections with design, the social transformations of the period and the construction of narratives through journalistic intervention.
Within the field of design history, he has researched companies, products and professional trajectories that offer a deeper understanding of the development of design culture in Catalonia. His work explores the intersections between history, design and artistic practice, adopting a critical approach to everyday objects as witnesses to cultural, economic and social transformations. From this perspective, his research contributes to broadening the historiography of design by examining works, individuals, organisations and memories that are often underrepresented in canonical narratives.
Professional Experience
His work also encompasses the documentation, conservation and dissemination of design heritage. He collaborates with the Design Library and Archive at the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona on projects relating to the oral history of local design, as well as with the museum's Collections Department.
Alongside this work, he maintains an independent practice that incorporates archival research and the recovery of objects and production processes as tools for the critical analysis of material culture.
