Alberto Polo

Alberto Polo

He began exploring photography intuitively, guided by his teenage passions: music and skateboarding. After studying at the IEFC, he graduated in Photography and Digital Creation from UPC in 1998 and was awarded a scholarship to attend Westminster University in London.

He started publishing his first skateboard images in national magazines. In 2000, he co-founded UNO magazine, where he worked as a photographer and photo editor for several years. He later worked with national and international publications and leading brands in the sector for over 20 years.

At the same time, he continued photographing the local music scene, touring across the Iberian Peninsula with bands, and collaborating with various publications, production companies, and record labels, with his images appearing in dozens of album covers.

These two paths, which have strongly shaped his career, have not prevented him from creating other types of images —both in commercial/professional and artistic fields— but have instead helped him develop a distinctive style. His work is heavily influenced by black-and-white street photography: raw, powerful, and loaded with emotional, poetic, and life-lived intensity.

With the aim of publishing his first book Hasta la boya y volver, a diary of life on the road with the rock band Nueva Vulcano, in 2013 he launched his own publishing project, Long Distance Runner. In 2015 and 2021, he published the first two volumes of the Love Life series —a continuously evolving project that has been exhibited at Photoalicante Festival (Alicante), Le Mur Gallery (Madrid), and Mojäk Gallerie (Heilbronn, Germany).

His publications are held in public libraries and institutional collections such as MACBA, and his work is part of the Vila Casas Foundation’s collection.

In 2015, he completed a Postgraduate Degree in Photography and Editorial Design at Eina. After collaborating intermittently with the school over the following years, he joined as a lecturer in the Photographic Project subject in the 2021–2022 academic year.
