Resonancias, a project developed by Fernando Palma Fanjul and Tània Costa, lecturers on Eina’s University Master’s Degree in Research in Art and Design (MURAD), has been selected to take part in Underground BDW, as part of Barcelona Design Week 2026. The project will be presented on 22, 23 and 24 October at Parking Gallery by LCI Barcelona (c. d’Àlaba, 124).
Resonancias is a research project exploring performative design and its potential for both design practice and education. It takes the form of a card game that functions simultaneously as a pedagogical and research tool, enabling participants to collectively address complex contemporary issues.
The game consists of three groups of cards — Crises, Agencies and Principles — which connect current challenges with different forms of intervention and ethical positions. Drawing primarily on performative and speculative design, the project seeks to transform abstract concepts and theoretical frameworks into practical tools for thinking, designing and intervening through design.
One of the project’s central aspects is the connection between research and teaching at Eina. During this academic year, Resonancias is being incorporated into Performative Design, a third-year subject on the Bachelor’s Degree in Design taught. Its use enables these ideas to be explored with students while, at the same time, allowing the device itself to be observed, evaluated and further developed through classroom experience.
The project also forms part of Fernando Palma’s PhD research in Philosophy at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), supervised by Tània Costa and Gerard Vilar, which explores the relationships between design, performativity, aesthetics and pedagogy.
Its participation in Barcelona Design Week builds on the project’s growing presence beyond the classroom. In June 2026, Palma and Costa presented the paper “Resonant Pedagogies: Performativity as a Critical Framework for Higher Education in Design” at the 12th International Conference on Higher Education Advances (HEAd’26), held at the Universitat Politècnica de València.
The presence of Resonancias at Underground BDW thus highlights a process connecting research, teaching and knowledge transfer: research developed in an academic context that enters the classroom, evolves through work with students and begins to circulate in new academic and design contexts.
