SIT-PLU

Disseny, Plurivers i transicions: pràctiques peri-urbanes situades

Eina begins the 2025-2026 academic year with the conference Disseny, Plurivers i transicions: pràctiques periurbanes situades (Design, Pluriverse and Transitions: Situated Peri-urban Practices), featuring Tat Bonvehí and Sitesize, which will take place on Thursday 9 October at the Eina Bosc facilities. The event, open to the general public, will also mark the launch of the European project Creative Europe SIT-PLU: Situated Creative Practices for the Pluriverse, which will be developed at Eina between 2025 and 2027.

SIT-PLU aims to explore how creative practices can contribute to imagining and building fairer and more sustainable futures. The project is committed to a situated gaze, which recognises the plurality of realities and contexts, and rejects homogenising visions of change.

At a time when discourses on transition are acquiring an unprecedented complexity and diversity, the project proposes design as a key tool to address social, ecological and political challenges from a plural and territorially rooted perspective. These narratives connect deeply with ontological questions and with the idea of pluriverse: the coexistence of multiple interconnected worlds. Far from a single, universal vision, the conference invites us to think of the world as a living ecosystem, in constant transformation, where humans and other forms of life coexist and mutually transform each other.

The location of Eina, in a peri-urban environment between Barcelona and the Collserola Natural Park, offers an ideal setting for this exploration. It is a hybrid and dynamic territory, where diverse actors, ways of life and materialities converge and defy conventional categories. This complex reality becomes a living laboratory for imagining and designing plural futures.

The conference will feature the participation of Tat Bonvehí, co-founder of Thinking Through Soil, a project that uses soil as an interpretative tool to address the political, epistemological and material implications of design in the urban environment. Sitesize will also take part, the platform that fosters collective knowledge, learning, and community action, creating meeting spaces and participatory processes, focused on the local sphere as a territory for experimentation and shared proposal.

The conference will be coordinated by Tània Costa and Lara García Díaz, principal investigators of SIT-PLU at Eina, and Pilar Cortada, director of Eina Obra. SIT-PLU is part of the Living Lab Eina Collserola, which brings together competitive research projects that generate innovation in design related to the territory and its communities from the perspective of material and social sustainability.
