Santi Vilanova


He currently teaches Digital Creation on the EINA Design Degree course.

From 2008 to 2012, he taught "Audiovisual Installations" on the Electronic Art and Digital Design Degree course at ESDI.

Since 2012, he has collaborated on the IDEP Escola Design Degree course, teaching "Audiovisual Creation".

Since 2011, he has collaborated with the UOC as an author and advisor for "Interaction Design".

Since 2011, he has collaborated on the UPC "Projecting the Light" postgraduate lighting design course, with seminars on the visual arts and architecture.

From 2005 to 2008, he collaborated with the Multimedia Laboratory at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Universitat de Barcelona giving a range of workshops on live audiovisual creation.

From 2004 to the present, he gives workshops, seminars and papers in "informal" settings, such as the Laboratori d'Escenografia Augmentada (LabFàbrica, Hangar, Telenoika, El Graner)

Professional / Research activity

With professional experience as a graphic designer in the field of television and advertising design on audiovisual products. Magic Image and Boolab, where he works on projects for IKEA, Nokia, Peugeot, Canal Sur, Gas Natural and Juanolas.

Since 2008, he has been working as an audiovisual research and interactive design freelancer, collaborating with the Telenoika Association, and setting up his own studio, Playmodes, together with Eloi Maduell. He works on international projects in this field for institutions, museums and trademarks: Movistar, Samsung, El Molino, Picasso Museum, CCCB, Government of Macau, Berlin Department of Culture, ICUB, Government of Catalonia, etc.

Parallel to this, he has taken part since 1996 as a musician in electronic and electro-acoustic projects and he actively collaborates with other musicians and performers in the fields of jazz, rock, folk and classical music. He also undertakes soundtrack commissions for audiovisual and stage arts projects.

He has been awarded grants aimed at the research and production of artistic projects from the Government of Catalonia, and in 2012 he was awarded the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona de Creativitat i Innovació as a member of the Associació Cultural Telenoika.

In 2013 he was awarded an honorary mention at the Ars Electrònica festival for the Blaus installation.



He is the author of teaching materials for the UOC, registered with a Creative Commons licence and downloadable for free.
