Bachelor’s in Fine Arts, specializing in Design (University of Barcelona, 1990); Graduate degree in Printing/Typography (Conservatory of the Art of the Book, “Llotja” 1993); Master’s in Narrative Illustration and Editorial Design (University of Brighton, 1995); PhD in Fine Arts (University of Barcelona, 2006).
Professor at the University of Barcelona, he has taught in design schools (IADE, IDEP) since 1991 and in the Department of Image and Design in the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona since 1997 – as an associate professor, teaching various postgraduate courses, and member of the Typography research group. He has also collaborated in other courses and institutions.
Professional experience / research
Combined teaching with graphic design, illustration and layout (for La Galera and Linguistic Services at the UB) until 2012.
During the last ten years he has given lectures at the International Congress of Typography and Visual Communication (Other typometric relations; Spaces of the Polyglot Bibles; Character, Expression and Physiognomy of the Romain du Roi, 2006-2010) in the Encontros de Tiopografía in Portugal (From the Tombstone to the Byte; Lessons in Lead, Typography and Graphic Architecture; Numbers Deception, 2012-2015) and in the Congress ATypi (The Geminated El, 2014).
He has published articles – “Apuntes para un estudio de proto-arquitectura gráfica” [Notes for a study of graphic proto-architecture I-II], with Enric Tormo and Begoña Simón, Graferma 1 and 2 2009-2010); and “Medidas tipográficas: un recuento” [Typographic Measures: a Recounting], Infodesign, 2014).
