Irene Savino

Irene Savino

Graduated in Graphic Design from the Neumann Institute of Design (Caracas, 1978), with a postgraduate in Illustration from Parson’s School of Design (New York, 1982). She also obtained the title of High Technician of Art and Design in Artistic Bookbinding by the Escola Superior de Disseny i Art, “Llotja” (Barcelona, 2004).


Has taught the course on Text Analysis in the specialization in Illustration at EINA since 2006.

Has taught a workshop on publishing children’s books for the Master’s in Books and Children’s and Young Adult Literature organized by the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Banco del Libro de Venezuela since 2005.

Previously taught Colour in the Neumann Institute of Design and Illustration at the Instituto Prodiseño (Caracas).

Professional experience / research

Art director at Ediciones Ekaré since 1984.


Has illustrated many children’s books, among them:

  • El dueño de la luz [The Keeper of the Light], published by Ediciones Ekaré.
  • El libro de oro de los abuelos [The Golden Book of Grandparents], Ediciones Ekaré, 2002.
  • Tú no me vas a creer [You Aren’t Going to Believe Me] Ediciones Ekaré, 2004
  • ¡Guau! ¡Guau! [Wow! Wow!], Ediciones Ekaré, 2007.


Some of her illustrations can be found in the collection of the Chihiro Art Museum (Japan).
