Lolo & Sosaku and Alex Posada approach technology, both digital and analogue, from the hacker's perspective, working with sound and light as materials. At the same time, we get introduced to the world of NFT, and Arnau Horta invites us to collectively discuss a sound glossary.
Professors: Lolo & Sosaku
Dates 18, 19, 20 and 21 de July
Scheduled time: from 3 pm to 8 pm
Duration: 20h
In this workshop, each participant will build an instrument-machine, experimenting with the sonority of different materials, the relationship between form and sound and the potential of rhythm and repetition. The workshop will end with a collective concert, creating a shared soundscape.
Programme
Monday 18.07 from 3 pm to 8 pm
Introduction to the universe of sound and machines, with videos and examples of realised projects.
Presentation of various sound machines that can serve as inspiration. There will be a demonstration of how they work and a round of questions with the workshop participants.
Construction of contact microphones: each student will make his or her own microphone in this first class.
Realisation of the first ideas for the construction of the instrument, by means of diagrams.
Tuesday 19.07 from 3 pm to 8 pm
Workshop work based on the instrument ideas.
Trial and error, sound pot, learning to work with the mixer.
We try out materials, sounds.
Wednesday 20.07 from 3 pm to 8 pm
We give final shape to the instrument.
We choose and decide all the details.
We leave it ready for the final phase.
Thursday 21.07 from 3 pm to 8 pm
Sound class. We polish details.
We finalize the instrument.
Friday 22.07 from 3 pm to 8 pm
Collective improvisation concert and round of conclusions, panel discussion and final analysis of different questions that may arise: Is sound art music? Could we score these sounds? Are we musicians now?
Professor: Alex Posada
Dates: 18, 19 and 22 de July
Scheduled time: from 10 am to 2 pm
Duratiom: 12h
This workshop will explain the basic methodologies and techniques of physical interaction to explore the creative possibilities of working with microcontrollers and interactive systems.
The course will consist of a first theoretical part where basic concepts of electronics and interaction applied to the development of projects based on microcontrollers will be explained in a simple way. The second part is focused in a practical way and proposes the creation of an interactive RGB luminaire, where the basic techniques of electronic prototyping and programming will be put into practice.
Each student will design an individual luminaire prototype project that can be further developed autonomously after the workshop.
The system will be based on Arduino/ESP32 and pixel-to-pixel addressable LEDs. The basic components and elements for the workshop will be provided.
Materials
- Arduino ESP32
- Addressable LED strips
- Power supply
- Kits of basic electronic components
Programme
Monday 18.07 from 10 am to 2 pm
Introduction and basic electricity concepts (voltage, intensity, current, ...).
Electronic components, microcontrollers, sensors, actuators.
Tuesday 19.07 from 10 am to 2 pm
Programming Arduino. Configuration and installation.
Examples of use with simple sensors and actuators.
Basic communication systems between devices.
Friday 22.07 from 10 am to 2 pm
Guided practice. Build your RGB luminaire.
Materials
The necessary materials for the workshop will be provided. All the tools and infrastructure of the EINA Bosc workshops will be made available to the participants.
Professor: Sabrina Bonini
Dates: 20 July
Scheduled time: from 10 am to 2 pm
Duration: 4h
We will the characteristics and uses of blockchain technology, delving into the creation and its usefulness, to understand the "crypto" world and the most important currencies, such as bitcoin and the creation of the Ethereum foundation. Within this framework, the functioning of NFTs will be explained through examples and projects applied in the creative world.
Professor: Arnau Horta
Dates: 21 July
Scheduled time: from 10 am to 2 pm
Duration: 4h
This seminar proposes a journey through some twenty concepts related to sonority and listening. Organised alphabetically, this "sound glossary" aims to address the aesthetic, material, political and humanistic dimensions of sound. "Acustemology", "sound art", "body", "sound design", "space", "resonance", "silence", "noise" or "soundscape" are some of the concepts that will be examined on the basis of examples from various fields: from music to architecture, from design to audiovisuals. Deconstructing some of the certainties derived from the centrality that the gaze and images occupy in our understanding of reality, the aim of the seminar is to invite reflection on sound and listening and to offer theoretical resources and tools of a multidisciplinary nature that make it possible to apply the multiple possibilities of sound in the field of the arts, design and creative practices in general.

Where will the workshops take place? How can I get there?
All summer workshops will be held in person at EINA Bosc. You can easily get there by public transport, as the building is right next to the Pie del Funicular station.
Do I need materials for the workshop?
Most of the materials and tools will be provided directly during the sessions, but if you need to bring any specific material you can consult the workshop programme.
Do I need previous knowledge to follow the workshops?
You don't need any previous training, just an interest in the subject matter of the workshop. The different courses will be adapted to the level of each participant.
How do I have to register?
To register you only need to fill in the registration form and select the option you are interested in. We will then contact you to finalise the enrolment and payment process.
