The codes and languages used by illustration are changing (animated graphics, interactivity, networks...) and its narrative has also evolved. We live in a context of constant transformation in culture and visual communication at all levels.
Audiences and brands have migrated to an ecosystem centred on the Internet, social networks, digital media and video game consumption. The rules are different and data management, personalisation and influencers have reconfigured the world of illustration and graphic communication at great speed. In the media, news is produced immediately and constantly updated, and in the world of video games, thanks to technologies such as 5G, graphic online games of a quality never seen before can be integrated in real time.
This evolution and new techniques in graphic communication are at the heart of this postgraduate programme, which aims to train illustrators who can understand the essence and new techniques derived from the digital world and learn to develop illustrations that are also focused on the digital sphere.

MODULE 1: Fundamentals, language and illustration applied to digital media and social networks (9 ECTS)
Visual thinking and illustration: Intensive training for the development of visual thinking and vision based on the principles of visual perception in illustration. From the deepening of visual culture, the foundations are obtained to build the basic structure of illustration.
Illustration, data and storytelling: The aim of this subject is to introduce data and storytelling applied to illustration, working with illustrated narrative processes. The different types of illustration and visualisations that work on the internet are presented, and training is given in Small Data and Small Thinking as methods for generating effective illustrations.
Creativity and illustration for social networks: Through the creation of an editorial project for social networks, the student is trained in visual thinking as a tool for developing creativity and productivity in shared and social environments.
Conceptualisation and current affairs: The subject establishes a necessary framework for understanding the current state of illustration in digital media, providing conceptualisation methodologies.
Graphic narrative: Starting from digital networks as social and shared mechanisms, the management of empathy and humour in illustration is worked on.
Digital illustration in movement: Finally, the first module includes a subject aimed at working on movement using formats such as Gif or video, applied to a specific project for a digital medium.
MODULE 2: Digital illustration applied to brands (6 ECTS)
Illustration in digital media and audiences: Study of the evolution of illustration in communication and its impact, focusing on the transformation of the graphic message into illustrated content.
Illustrator, illustration and brand: This subject trains the student, the future illustrator, in the relationship established with the brand, of which he or she is, to a certain extent, an ambassador.
Digital illustration for brands: Through the development of a digital illustration project for a brand with online and offline presence, different methodologies and creative processes are worked on to learn how to generate graphic narratives from illustration.
MODULE 3: Experimental illustration and video games (6 ECTS)
Experimental digital illustration: Students are introduced to the world of experimentation through creative processes within the digital medium.
Illustration for video games: The student will be prepared to be able to develop autonomously working processes in illustration specifically oriented to video games.
Illustration for video games and experimentation: Finally, the module works on the video game as an experimental project, where illustration plays a fundamental role.
MODULE 4: Transversal workshops (6 ECTS)
Illustration and data: This workshop aims to raise questions about the border between illustration and infographics, and whether it is possible to show subjective data in an infographic illustration.
Digital illustration: trends and references: Opening debate and providing students with a framework of references and trends in the world of visual culture is essential to be able to position themselves and move professionally as an illustrator.
Professional illustration portfolio: An essential part of any illustrator's professional career is knowing how to present their own projects. This workshop provides students with the tools and strategies to prepare a digital illustration portfolio.
Self-employment: Learning to promote and manage business projects based on illustration. Using visual thinking techniques, the student is provided with methods to manage and plan the process of creating a business based on digital illustration.
Illustration project management: Last but not least, it is no less important to provide knowledge and strategies for managing budgets, contracts and agents in the field of digital illustration.
MODULE 5: Final Postgraduate Project (3 ECTS)
The postgraduate programme ends with the completion of a final project for a real company and/or a social Non-Governmental Organisation. In this edition, an online project will be developed for a video game company, a telephone company or a digital media. The project must have a briefing, and the corresponding research, analysis and development of the proposal, which will be presented at the end of the postgraduate course. It will be developed in such a way that each student will choose a tutor to monitor their project depending on the type of project they choose, and receive feedback (secondary tutoring) from another lecturer.
