From sketch to volume allows students to be introduced to the technique of sculpture and modelling, taking an illustration as a starting point. From the sketch of a character or object we will learn how to give it volume using analogue methods.
The course provides the basic notions to understand how volumetric language works, and how it relates to the scale of the object and space. We will talk about the elaboration of moulds, the suitability of different materials, as well as the possibility of creating small series.
From different sketches, we will choose the most suitable one to model and turn it into a character or object of approximately 20 cm, going through the different phases of modelling up to the baking of the piece. Once the piece is baked, it can be polished, retouched or painted with spray or other paints.

Students and professionals related to the artistic and creative field, especially illustrators and product designers. Or anyone interested in the contents of the course who wishes to get started in this field. No previous knowledge of modelling or sculpture is required.
- Acquire the basics necessary to transfer a character or two-dimensional element to volume.
- To learn to build volumetric pieces from analogue modelling, working with the hands, exercising the fingers, making them more active and skilful.
- Knowing how to think in space and understanding that volume involves forcefulness.
- Discover new languages that help to broaden different mental and work horizons.
To follow the course correctly, it is recommended to bring moulding tools for clay or plaster, as well as moulding paste (fimo type). You can get these tools in any shop specialising in fine arts, crafts or stationery.
Wednesday 04.05 from 4 pm to 8 pm
Introduction to analogue modelling.
First sketches and creation of different characters, objects or elements.
Friday 06.05 from 4 pm to 8 pm
Sharing of the different illustrations made by each student.
Each student will choose a character or element with the advice of the teacher, to later begin to sketch different sections and prepare the necessary drawings for the subsequent modelling.
Wednesday 11.05 from 4 pm to 8 pm
Construction of the inner structure using wire and covering with aluminium foil. Start laying the modelling paste (fimo).
Friday 13.05 from 4 pm to 8 pm
Finalisation of the volumetry of the piece with moulding paste.
Introduction to the technique of making moulds and presentation of the different materials and processes that make it possible to create a small series, as well as the market possibilities of modelling.
Wednesday 18.05 from 4 pm to 8 pm
Polishing and finishing the piece using different finishes.
Sharing of the results among all the students.
Registration closed.
